When Helping Hurts: A Series for Struggling Professionals

Witnessing intense client pain, navigating stressed workplaces, managing hectic personal lives and living in a world marred by polarization and pain places helping professionals at risk for compassion fatigue and burnout.  We matter too!  This 3-part series is dedicated to supporting helping professionals gently explore theme of fatigue, vicarious traumatization and burnout.  Together we will hold space to explore parts of us deeply impacted by work and the world.  We will learn a little, share a little and get creative to honor wounded parts of us and explore paths towards renewed compassion satisfaction in our important work.  This series is not meant to be political but we will not shy away from that kind of pain either.  All tender parts are welcome here and also respect and kindness towards one another is required.  Let’s lift one another up to meet these challenging times.

Is This What Burnout Feels Like? - April 4, 2025, 9:30 - 11:00 am Eastern Time - Zoom

The world is deeply wounded.  So many people are suffering and struggling.  Systems are in chaos.  Polarizations are everywhere.  People are hurt and angry.  No one seems able to find middle ground.  Healers are expected to navigate all these challenges personally; while also tenderly holding  intense client pain.  It is heavy.  It feels overwhelming.  It can become a burden.  Some helping professionals are wondering do I want to do this anymore?  Do I  have the bandwidth to hold all this pain?  Is this what burnout feels like?  Join us for this free workshop to hold space for our own wounded hearts.  Together we will explore what hurts and start to determine if we are experiencing burnout or something else.  We may laugh and we may cry. We may leave with few or many answers but for sure we will know that we matter!  Others care about our pain and hope and healing is possible in this compassionate community! What An Introduction to the Foundational Concepts of IFS When/Where:  May 16 & 17, 2025.  9 AM-3 PM ET in our Zoom Classroom Are you a helping professional who is curious to learn more about all the excitement around the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model? Do you long to use IFS with your clients but are not sure how to safely begin? Do you prefer to learn from an officially certified IFS consultant, therapist and MSW professor? Join Lara Krawchuk, MSW, LCSW, MPH in this virtual, comprehensive and interactive two-part class where you will get the guidance to develop a solid foundational understanding of the healing power of IFS. Together we will discuss the nuances of this exciting, evidence-based model; including how and why Manager and Firefighter “parts” tend to dominate the internal systems of clients. We will explore parts’ roles and sometimes extreme efforts to manage away the pain of deeply vulnerable parts, called Exiles. We will explore the healing power of SELF energy and how to access its many benefits. Finally, we will carefully practice how to safely start working with clients from an IFS framework. This class will use discussion, Powerpoint slides, video, case studies, demos and experiential exercises to support a solid foundation for beginning to use an IFS lens in your work. You will return to your work with clarity around how to safely use IFS with diverse clients in a range of practice settings. ​​10 CEU credits available, for a small fee, directly through NASW-PA NASW-PA Chapter is a co-sponsor of this workshop. 10 CEs will be awarded for completion of this course.
